The Sign was built in 1923 to read Hollywoodland, as a publicity ploy to promote sales of homes in a subdivision by the same name along Beachwood Canyon. Original cost was $21,000. Letters were 30 feet wide and 50 feet tall, and were studded with low wattage light bulbs, 4,000 altogether.The Hollywood Sign was shortened in 1945. 好萊塢大道 中國劇院 (Mann's Chinese Theater, or Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles)
洛杉磯 好萊塢 重要的地標是位於好萊塢大道(Hollywood Blvd)的中國戲院(Mann's Chinese Theater or Grauman's Chinese Theater)。中國戲院創始者Sid Grauman在1918年建立中國戲院時，曾說了一句名言：「如果觀眾認為這是一個好的表演，不要想要延長，反而應該將它濃縮，這樣會讓觀眾更加期待！」。1927年5月中國戲院開幕，以中國古代宮殿式建築的外觀而得名。69呎高的青銅色屋頂高入雲霄，有如一頂古代武士頭盔，柱上裝飾「孔子問禮於老子」的圖案和鬼面具，內部裝潢也是以中國藝術概念而設計。
中國戲院吸引遊客的是戲院前庭那些近200位明星留下的手印足印。中國戲院前庭這些手印足印的由來也有許多的小故事，其中廣為流傳的是當時的默劇影星Norma Talmadge，在一次參觀中國戲院建築工程時，不小心一腳踏在未乾的水泥地上，而留下腳印，也讓目睹這個過程的Sid Grauman靈機一動，陸續邀請許多巨星前來留下足跡。

Grauman's Chinese Theatre opened over 70 years ago, with the 1927 debut of the original silent version of "King of Kings," produced by Cecil B. DeMille. Since then, the Chinese Theatre has been the site of more gala Hollywood movie premieres than any other theatre.
